Sustainability events around campus this academic year
The University Committee on Sustainability consists of a diverse group of students, staff, faculty and administrators. Jenny Paige was our previous Environmental and Sustainability Manager at UNCG, chairs the committee - the position is currently vacant. Beginning Fall 2007, Jenny and Anna Marshall-Baker will co-chair the committee. In the following spring, members of the University Committee on Sustainability will elect new co-chairs, one a member of the faculty and the other a representative of staff at UNCG. The Vice-Chancellor of Business Affairs, the Provost and Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affairs, who serve as ex-officio members of the Committee, will appoint the elected co-chairs to these positions.
Members of the committee are divided into 8 working groups: Campus Dining, Green Building, Waste Reduction & Recycling, Transportation & Campus Access, Health & Safety, Academics & Culture, Communications & Outreach, and Student Initiatives. Beginning Fall 2007, the committee will add two additional groups, “Grounds Management” and “Energy & Climate”. In our first year, the working groups have assessed current practices in each area and developed recommendations for progressing forward.
Each working group has identified a representative to serve on the Council of Representatives (COR), which makes decisions regarding committee structure and governance. The COR also addresses broader institutional commitments to sustainability while the working groups target specific areas such as Green Building or Campus Dining.
