Sustainability events around campus this academic year
With a focus on sustainability, the Office of Waste Reduction & Recycling provides an integrated and environmentally sound waste management program for the entire UNCG community. Programs are always expanding and there are many achievements to speak of. UNCG recycles over 30 types of material, has a recycling rate of 31%, a comprehensive residence hall recycling program, and a successful electronic-waste recycling program. There are also numerous re-use opportunities such as the move-out waste diversion program, “Cram & Scram”, and our magazine re-use rack. In addition to diverting waste from the landfill and saving energy, recycling creates jobs and saves money. Recycling at UNCG produced a total savings of $131,312 for the university last year.
The Waste Reduction & Recycling working group has helped these efforts tremendously by providing a “user’s perspective” and identifying ways in which waste minimization and management on campus can be improved.
